PostSubject: RAIT   Sun May 24, 2015 5:03 pm

The Reconnaissance and Advanced Intelligence Team; or RAIT for short (pronounced as "Wraith") is the paramilitary division of the FUCIN, the Federal Unified Central Intelligence Network that governs the Galactic Federation's espionage and intelligence arm.  Like much of FUCIN, RAIT believes that the key to securing dominance within known space is to take measures that the more publicly spotlit sections of the federation would never countenance.  Black ops raids of dubious morality, projects that would churn the stomachs of any ethicist, tactics that would make a war crimes tribunal have nightmares; all of these are necessary to secure victory and hegemony for the Federation.  The moral high ground is nice for those who can afford it, but the Federation cannot afford to be so constrained.

The RAITs are thus, not bound by many of the codes placed upon the Federation Army or the Marine Corps/Navy.  Similarly, FUCIN has seen it fit to arm its armed forces with the latest and greatest in weaponry.  It was the RAITs that reverse engineered the Shock Coil from the alimbics for Federation use among other things after all.  Whereas the Marines prefer energy sheathed projectiles and the army prefers chemically boosted magnetically launched projectiles; RAIT Shock Troopers prefer the usage of massive caliber gyrojets known as "bolters" for their primary weapon.  While these have rather strictly limited ammunition capacities, they are known for the massive trauma they inflict and the wide variety of warheads available to them.

Still, conscious of ammunition limits for their soldiers, most of them also carry an underslung Tesla assault weapon that sends arcing waves of electricity that wreak havoc on flesh and machine alike, allowing them to carry on with the fight even while reloading.  RAIT soldiers tend to wear Shock Trooper class power armor, which unlike the Olive suits of the Army and the Chrome suits of the Marines, is a deep and threatening black with gunmetal grey and blue trimmings.  The helm is based on the classic stahlhelm while a one way full face visor provides for maximum viewing capabilities and minimum obstruction while the armor is bulkier, more intimidating and heavy set than the armor of the Police, Marines, or Army.

The RAIT, while theoretically under the chain of command of the federation military, is in practice almost completely independent, with FUCIN having override directives whenever the military tries to give RAIT orders that FUCIN deems unnecessary or counter-productive.  This, coupled with their disregard for civilian safety, the rules of engagement, and access to top secret weapons developed by FUCIN's black ops researches, leads to a great deal of resentment between RAIT and the Military and Police.  The latter is on especially poor terms with RAIT due to the Wraiths tendency to squirrel away with captives and never release them to the justice system.

The Wraiths have traditionally considered mercenaries and bounty hunters to be disposable assets (to say nothing of the military and police), often using them as cannon fodder to soften the resistance of enemy forces before deploying themselves.  Those who show promise however, are recruited into the ranks of the Wraiths as "Enforcers", those who show unique talents, abilities, and powers that cannot be mass produced among the ranks of the RAIT.  Those who consistently refuse invitations to assimilate into their command structure are assumed to be potential threats that must have contingency plans worked for in case their elimination becomes necessary.

Whereas much of the Federation holds the Chozo who helped found the organization with reverent awe, RAIT and FUCIN regard the Chozo as outmoded hippies whose moral pontification holds back the full potential of the federation.  Though their advances in magic and science are to be respected, their refusal to share their military technology means that now the Chozo are largely out of the way; RAIT must pry their secrets from their graves for the betterment of the federation, no matter the cost.  After all, the Pirates don't show any restraint in their looting; why should the Federation?

Hey, I've been meaning to ask this since I read the first chapter of fireheart, but is FUCIN pronounced the way one would think it is?
Also, incredibly dark man. but well founded, I can see living shit (morally) like them being a big part of the federation.

It's pronounced Foo-Sin, but a planned running gag is someone reminding other people it's not pronounced as F****ing.

I was actually making something called the Ghost program which is another secret Federation espionage, intelligence, and assassination team made for specially augmented soldiers that picked up Monsoon and Talon Locke. Would the two be connected or would they be two separate things?

All of Wraith's shock troopers are augmented both biologically and cybernetically to varying degrees and they enhance those they recruit.    As for a connection, I'm not sure if RAIT would survive that long given how politically toxic it'd be in a post-fusion situation where Samus would likely tear the whole thing down.

Also three members of the Dead Hand Six mentioned in the bio (the entire unit is wiped out by Immanuel von Sanders aka Sylux post-Zero Mission)

Mercy: A Psionic capable Jovian, Mercy was highly valued for her combat skills and extreme proficiency at operations requiring stealth or infiltration due to her twin abilities of shape shifting and telepathy, while in battle she would make use of high grade telekinetics and electricity production capabilities. Equipped with a special "Ghost" power suit that allowed her to teleport in rapid succession, she was recruited into the Dead Hand six upon RAIT catching wind of one of their infiltration operatives bringing down an entire Kriken fortress on her own. Though preferring close quarters combat, Mercy was rated as highly proficient at most distances of combat and with most weapons in RAIT's arsenal, though she came to be known for her usage of two special wrist cannons with deployable energy-scythes that were highly lethal in short ranged combat. At long range, she of course had telekinetic and electricity generating abilities; thus making the need for suit weapons for combat at beyond point blank ranges nonexistent of course. Enhancements were made to supercharge her shapeshifting and psionic abilities as well as increase her reaction times.  Deployed to guard the sentinel prime research base, she was killed by Sylux who forcefully connected her to the Base's power grid via jamming a power cable into her skull and overloaded her with energy to the point of exploding.

Cyrux: The initial field-tester of the suit that Sylux would later take for his own use, Cyrus was a large, burly man of British descent; real name James Earlson, known for his boisterous personality that joyfully sought battle with worthy opponents and often took to his tasks like a hunter of big game would. Soldiers also joke that he was also well known for his "fantastic mustache". First using a Enforcer Mk38 Heavy Combat suit, he found the switch to the Shock Vanguard Mk1 prototype suit to be a natural fit and found himself preforming at a far higher level with an armorsuit based on scavenged data from Alimbic, Chozo, Ylla, N'Kren, Xik'kri'vik, and other "precursor" civilizations, bolstered by the discovery of a Dominion-Alliance war era Chozo fortress on the research planet Sentinel Prime. Paired with the "Vampiric" model Shock coil and lock jaw functionality, Cyrux was considered one of the best of the best, even in the Dead Hand six which was widely considered the best outfit in RAIT. Enhancements were mostly focused on increasing his reaction times to better match up the expected values of Samus aran in a hypothetical engagement.  Killed by Sylux during the Sentinel Prime raid who temporarily disabled his suit's save station compatability and inflicted a fatal laceration upon suit failure through his interface undersuit, allowing him to bleed out from a massive and deep cut from his abdomen to his upper rib.

Adder: A Balrog esque silicon based life form with a great deal of resemblance to depictions of demons from Earth's early history. Huge, orange crystalline membranes stretch between the obsidian fingers of the wings, while great features of glowing crystal go across its skin giving the impression of lava veins across the obsidian carapace of the rocky creature. Six crystal eyes are aligned right about where you'd expect eyes to be (http://i.ytimg.com/vi/FVjEnB29PFc/maxresdefault.jpg) while his mouth has the standard vertebrate jaw structure, though he has six small mandibles along the sides. Part of a rare species known as the Devorodai, Adder is often considered the Federation's answer to Ridley, and his natural ability to create plasma, fire, and his truly prodigal strength and formadible intellect don't do much to dissuade this.  Personally killed Eva von Sanders, mother to Immanuel von Sanders and the Cyrenar; the best warrior within the Federated Cylosian Empire roughly fourteen Earth years before the "Zero Mission" of Samus Aran. Enhancements include nanoreactive armor, reaction and speed enhancement, and implanted shield generators.  Killed by Sylux during the raid on the Sentinel Prime base after stealing Cyrux's suit, overcoming Adder's nanoreactive armor and ripping out his heart and crushing it in his hands after a lengthy battle before repeatedly hammering his fists into his face before stopping, realizing how far his rage had taken him from what he was supposed to be after a dying taunt from adder; the last of the dead hand six to be killed.

Ghost could possibly even be the replacement for RAIT after Samus tears it down. Similar to the Alpha Protocol organization from...alpha protocol, where any time it's outed they just restart it with some former members under a different name, if it's a problem having them both exist in post-fusion time I mean. I still haven't entirely thought through Ghost.

After Fusion Sylux/Immanuel and Samus team up and rip RAIT to shreds so yeah they'd probably fold into ghost.

Another dead hand six member!

Veil: A member of a reptilian, chameleonic species known as the Zyvyxis; Veil was the Dead Hand six's best scout, sniper, and commando ops specialist, surpassing even Mercy in the field of reconaissance. An artisan with his explosives and sniper, Veil also trained and mentored many of RAITs best scouts and snipers in his art. Like all members of the Dead Hand Six, Veil participated in the assault on Cylosis to alleviate the risk that the Cylosian Empire would make use of the Alimbic technology from the ship that they had recently uncovered. Veil would personally plant the explosives that collapsed the chancellery building and executed Heinrich von Sanders when he was unwilling to provide the access codes to the dig site. Veil was killed in Sylux's raid on Sentinel Prime when Immanuel avenged his father by force feeding veil one of his own detpacks to silence his begging for mercy before shoving his sniper rifle straight through his abdomen and fired a charged shot with it to blast him in half before exploding the pack. It is believed that at the point in time Sylux was experiencing elevated symptoms of rage.

Sylux wipes out the entire unit in elaborate and extremely messy ways at around the same time as Zero Mission.

They mostly appear in pre-zero mission role plays.

wow, not going to get many if any of those. Or are you referring to already started/completed ones on other sites?

I plan on starting some.

Some of them might be resurrected, or have substitutes raised as RAIT and Immanuel/Sylux doggedly battle one another, and they're certainly going to throw everything and the kitchen sink to stop their dissolution when they're targeted post-fusion.

I just realized since I retconned Talon Locke into being a Wraith originally that I should do the same for Monsoon.
I'd assume Sylux killed more than just that unit at Post-Zero Mission time? If so I might make him one of the guys Sylux took out and they revived.

Sylux kills a hell of a lot of people.

Immanuel's the second best combatant around after Samus (though always being second best is part of why he loses it for a while before he finds peace with himself).

I'm not sure on Sylux and Samus' relationship later on. They're in that nebulous area between romantic and platonic friends pre-zero mission but Fusion and afterwards is an unknown.

I dunno, maybe they get busy.

I'd say that would make more sense to consider after Hunters considering every time they meet there they try to kill eachother. Or maybe they're just having an intense argument at the time.

Sylux doesn't reconsider the path he takes completely until the Pirates collapse after Corruption, and then stops working for their scattered remnants entirely once Zebes goes kerplooey. He says it's because they can't afford his rates anymore, but it's really because he's had time to rethink things over and can't keep on reconciling working with the pirates with his honor code.

I mean, the Pirates are pretty cartoonishly evil with zero redeeming traits if the Manga is anything to go by. Like less Sexualized Dark Eldar really.

not under my Ridley's rule. also, which Manga? the zero-mission manga? or one like Samus and Joey? cause the former seemed to paint them in a pretty serious light (most of the time).

Yeah I think on this site's canon the space pirates have just a bit of redeeming factors. They're not exactly cartoon villains anymore but they can still be dicks.

Cartoon villains in that they're just purely evil without anything to suggest that they're capable of anything less than being sadistic monsters. I mean, Ridley literally brags about probably eating Samus' mom to her and the Space Pirates were going to kill a child for the crime of being too short.

Though to be fair, a lot of Nintendo series have the villains be evil to the core rather than especially morally complex. It's not necessarily a bad thing of course. I mean, nobody ever complains about Ganondorf being a card carrying villain.

well, Ridley did adopt Talon. Can't exactly say he's ALL evil. And the bragging scene seems/seemed to be more of a psychological attack rather than actually bragging about it. Something meant to get a reaction that would make things more easy for him to deal with. That's just my guess though. Still, he is a pretty evil bastard, I will admit that. I obviously don't play him to the fullest potential that Nintendo built him up for, same with Samus, but who can really help that? We're all different people, I'm sure that if the guy who made metroid were to join some roleplaying community and RP Samus and Ridley, he would nail the feel that they give whenever portrayed in the manner they were in the manga pretty much perfectly. Or maybe that would be the manga's lead writer who would be able to, and not the creator of the games, I dunno, it's kind of hard to guess about that.

I just now realized I never came up with an actual reason for Ridley to take Talon Aran in/spare him, which is pretty bad considering that's a pretty major part of his backstory.
I can't think of anything really.

This topic is literally 2 years old but I just wanna say I'm scrapping the GHOST concept because I only had 2 characters in mind for it, one is out of it now, and the other could just be in RAIT at the time that he's really relevant as a RAIT/GHOST(with the Federation Hunter thing happening earlier in the timeline).
