PostSubject: Sequence Breaking   Mon Jun 20, 2016 5:40 am

So, how many people here have performed sequence breaking in a metroid game? I ask because I've done it in currently every metroid game I've played that has even glitches that allow sequence breaking (or cheats in the case of M2:RoS), that means even MP1 and MP2:DE. Both of those through the use of glitches/minor bugs. Then with M4/MF, I used a mod patch that made IBJ and single wall jumping possible (really nice that one).

I always sequence break. Every time I play Zero Mission, Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, or the orginal I skip something or get something early. My current Speedrunning record in Metroid Zero Mission is 1 hour and 22 minutes and In Metroid Fusion it's 1 hour and 30 minutes. Super Metroid I'm strangely not into speed running and the glitches required to sequence break a Prime game are way to hard for me to speed through without screwing up and falling into nothingness.

Though I do commonly get the Space jump early in prime and Ice Beam before Flaggra,

Prime 2 I have done dark suitless runs using the ghetto jump to skip.

I got into Torvus dark-suit less without having to go through the poison gas room at all, I skipped to right under the temple by using the elevator in Agon. I used the infinite speed glitch to keep my items in the beginning, then got the seeker launcher after I had both of the beams and one expansion.

Cool, I haven't really Done stuff like that, since I'M more into sequence breaking the 2D games, that and I only have the MPT version of Metroid Prime 2. Though It's now 10 bucks on gamestop so it's very tempting, though I couldn"t play it without sequence breaking, I already hate the Boast and Spider guardians with the Wii's Improved Controls and easied difficulty, i'd probably need a new gamecube and TV after playing the GC version.

I also remember when I did a Speedrunning against my friends of Metroid Zero Mission, they had thought they were going to kick my ass after doing a couple of full playthroughs, and then they started saying that my run didn't count the second they saw me bomb jump for an early Varia suit. That's what they get for not knowing about Metroid.

BTW why does a lot of people have trouble shinesparking. It's is easier than the wall jump. I mean my favorite youtuber somecallmejohnny says he can't do anything but straight up correctly, (even though at the end of his Super Metroid review where he "accidentally" does a horizontal shinespark during the self-destruction sequence makes me question that.) For me Shinesparking is easier than any other sequence breaking technique. It took me about 5 minutes to get shinesparking down for all 3 games, (Super, fusion, and Zero Mission,) For wall jumping it took me 2 hours to learn how to wall jump in Super Metroid, 30 minutes to get down the speed difference in Zero Mission, and about 5 minutes to get Fusion's double wall jump down. And the bomb jump took me even longer.

Actually, if you actually know how to fight them, even when taking damage at the 5x rate that you do dark-suitless, then you can kill them pretty easily (5x dark Aether damage that is, bit late, but still). Though, I did end up using my early gotten Lightburst on the boost guardian, and used the spider ball tracks where available on the spider guardian.

On another note, I've no idea. I didn't know that people had trouble shinesparking, I got it pretty down pat in MF, and never had trouble since. Pretty simple since you just press jump, hold a direction (or one of the shoulder buttons), and ZOOM off you go after a second or two of charge. Not really anything hard about that. I had more trouble with the M4/F double wall jump, and that was my first game. I got the MZM wall jump down in only a few minutes after watching a particular walkthrough, along with the bomb-jumping. I did have to look up how to bomb jump in SM though, couldn't figure it out. And it didn't even take me time to get the wall jumping in SM down, I kind of attribute that to my previous experience with MZM. Though, I think if you handed me a controller and told me to wall or bomb jump in SM, I would probably fail horribly since I got used to it on a keyboard.

Actually it's easiar for me to wall Jump and Bomb Jump in Super Metroid then In Metroid Zero Mission since Super Metroid has a lower framerate. And I learn all this Via Controller, so I'm pretty much the total opposite of you, If I had to do any of it on a keyboard, I would fail horribly. I may be able to do Super Metroid, again, because of the lower framerate. Metroid Zero Mission Sequence breaking on a Keyboard for me would be like a Cave Man Trying to go to the moon.

Surprisingly, it's not too difficult once you start trying. Though that may be because of the fact that my right hand is my dominant one, so the directional buttons being manipulated by it instead of my left gives me a bit better of a situation. I've noticed that I have way more trouble bomb jumping in an emulator, and I've had to switch hands or control schemes to be able to do it reliably to get the Varia suit early.

I'm right handed, but I'm a WASD guy, I like PC gaming, (though I am still Team Console,), but most of the PC games I like use the mouse for actions and WASD for moving, like minecraft. I hate using keys on a keyboard for repeated actions, like pressing the jump button repeatedly.

I can't say I hate it, I'm just not the best at and don't like it either. I guess I've been getting better with it recently, but it's still pretty difficult. And, if you can't stand a GBA or SNES emulator, just try an N64 or PS1 emulator. True evil there, which needs a controller if it's going to be done. Well, in the latter one anyway, the former's not so bad, at least not with Doom and Quake.

Oh I've had worse. Try Ps1 or N64 with a touchscreen. When I did I said "Fuck This," and went and bought myself a Bluetooth controller. What sucks is that it won't connect to my PC so I can't enjoy Dolphin Emulator.

Wow. Just...Wow. Yeah, glad that I just don't touch touchscreen unless it's the NDS now. That sounds horrible. Like the spawn of the Christian devil and like...Raktabīja or some shit. Pure evil.

It really hurt my pointer fingers, another reason why I got a Bluetooth controller. I need those fingers so that I can point at the air while playing Ace Attorney.

...Can't really comment on that. Never played that series...or watched it...or read about it. Or anything involving it...at all.

It's REALLY FUN. Well it depends on what you like, most people who like it like it because

The soundtrack is Frickin Amazing
The Story is written really well and has amazing twists
The characters are well developed and make you actually care about them.
People like to shout Objection into the DS microphone (Yeah, If you thought the first reason was stupid, then I'M sure your not any more, and YES I've meet people who have claimed this is the reason why they like AA)

You should try it. It's a really good game, but to be warned, its not everyone's cup of tea.

(I love the power of the internet, having two conversations at once and one someone went from metroid to Zelda and the other went from metroid to Ace Attorney.)

Yep. Power of the internet. On the other note, I can't really get a copy in the first place, just don't have the resources to do it. Nor would I know where to start.
Oh, and the first through third reasons aren't stupid. The fourth is stupid in a silly way, but not stupid in a braindead way, so it could be cute.
About the only thing I know about the series is that the main character (I think?) is named Phoenix Wright, and he has painful anime-hair, almost as bad as Yugi Moto's. Almost.

I never said reason number 3 was stupid,

And YES Phoenix is the main character, IN Ace Attorney 4, Apollo Justice Ace Attorney they tried to make a new main character but it didn't work out, (Especially since 2/3 of AA4 focuses on Phoenix.) In AA5 Apollo was pushed to sidekick pretty much and Phoenix got the spotlight back (Not that he lost it to begin with.)

And I usually play the games with an emulator on my Phone, it works really well since the entire game is made to use only the touchscreen or only physical buttons. If you have IOS I heard the first 3 games are on there for pretty cheap with HD graphics.

Nope, don't have it. Plus, I tend to avoid touchscreen phones like the plague. I think phones should never have gone beyond the flip top era, the only reason I see (personally, not everyone has to agree with me or anything, hell, no one actually has to agree, it's just a personal opinion) to get a touchscreen is Pokemon Go. Because hell yes.

I don't really like Pokemon Go! Since you don't battle pokemon, all you do is catch them. Though I do like how it gave a massive boast to Nintendo's Stock Price. Serves all those Nintendo haters who post in my Youtube Comments right.

You know, I think if you go to gyms you CAN battle pokemon. No guarantees, I don't have the game, but I know someone who does and I've watched a video or two on it. I think you can battle pokemon if you go to a gym.
In other news, I haven't eaten since...like...4PM (at best) yesterday, so I'm going to go get something on my stomach, cause, it's hating me right now.

You can battle at gyms, but most of the fun of Pokemon, at least for me, is fighting Pokemon so that you can capture them. In Pokemon Go you just throw the Poke Ball at them and there you go.

Wow. Personally, I've never really cared for the pokemon battles, at least, no more than I care for the random encounters of any other "RPG" anyway.

It's just that it is even more repetive without the battles, and takes away all skill involved.

All right, I can see that. After playing around in Ruby on an emulator using cheats, I suppose I can understand that point of view. That being said, I beat it on the actual cart long before I got my hands on emulators to be able to do it on my VBA.
