BSOVS (Pre Return of Samus)

((My example of a bar topic I've been planning for a while... and now that I've asked... well, it exists. This gives me an idea, too; Shasta being on the team attacked by Metroids during studies... or something like that.))

(BSOVS = Base of SRX Organic and Viral Studies)

Thoth glanced out a window, then sat down. Scientists at this base had made a habit of being risky with their timing of leaving the structure and being slaughtered by a partially-advanced organism- that is to say, advanced in some ways and primitive in some-, which was a recent... discovery... Shasta had been paid here to list the peculiar larval patterns, currently four stages known, possibly more, list the organism under taxonomy, whether it took up its own kingdom, but was likely an animal or extremely large bacteria, the latter unlikely, it's own phylum, unlikely to be Chordata unless Shasta was ever to find any Pharyngeal pouches, gill slits, or a notochord... and if not would go under a classification completely of its own, giving Shasta a headache. He was also encouraged to draw several charts of Metroid anatomy, and more. Other scientists had been studying other organisms, one studying a virus- the base is named like this because viruses aren't technically organisms, as they only share a fraction of a trait with them. He put his Portable hard drive and an organic processor into an empty laptop, designed for this purpose. He began ticking away at the keys, carefully describing the Metroid's anatomy.

Cliodna's permanent post on SR388 was about 5 miles away, and Thoth was currently on Norion.

It Was night time,Exalyn walked cautiosly as he was now a very old man,After hundreds of years he still walked strong,Exalyn walked to his control room and took control of his ship,he landed on SR388."No army,no way to go back home,I think my days in exile will be boring,no fights,no space pirates,maybe this isnt bad after all"sighed Exalyn.Exalyn was unable to return to alinos as he was in exile for the last days of his life.Exalyn noticed a federation building as he got out of his ship,he knew that the federation were a well known Race.Exalyn walked slowly towards the base and approached the main gate."Hello is anybody there,This is general exalyn,Please open the gate,I am in exile and i would wish for a place to stay"Said exalyn in his frail,broken voice.

Akiba was walking around the recently established base on SR388. He walked by the main entrance and heard someone named 'Exalyn.' The door guard was off duty, so Akiba stepped in.
"Exile? For what?"

"Well,because i am getting too old for war,I have been exiled to a nice quiet place where i can spend the rest of my days peacefully and not get caught up in anymore battles and besides it is a old alimbic tradition"Replied exalyn in his old,frail voice.Exalyn spoke the truth because many years ago his ancestors all had to go through exile before their death and he will now join them in death and in life

"Come in."
Akiba opens the door and lets the alien in.

"So... These Metroids... Could these be large single celled creatures?" Shasta spoke into the microphone, then to the rest of the room. "Hey, Akiba. Exalyn."

"I suppose I will need to be testing them for Chlorophyll... Ironically enough, at this point I can't confirm that they're not plants... some ARE green, possibly from the Chlorophyll. Unless they only have one cell. In that case we've ruled out animals, as well." He paused for a second. "If a Metroid were single celled, it would be invulnerable to viruses and bacteria."

"Have you ever seen a Metroid with the flu?" Cliodna's synthetic voice rang over the speakers. Shasta turned them down.

"I suppose not."

He backspaced from Eukaryota>Opisthokonta>Animalia> then typed in Bacteria>

Then he stopped again. "How do they reproduce? I need more information. Not all single celled organisms are bacteria."

"Idiot. You jumped right to bacteria?"

"Yes..." He walked into an area of the base sealed off, then walked in to discover something with leathery skin, with a large transparent sphere protruding from its ventral side. The cell-like form that was a Metroid was simply a larva, the first of minor evolutionary stages. he had forgotten about the extremely recent discovery, the one with garbled transmissions leading to be base, killed by the energy dependent... animals. Multiple celled. Membranous. Going though metamorphosis. He reentered the information he had deleted before, then began working on Superphylum. In order to figure that out, he needed to examine an egg. He sighed, sat down, and then thought. He imagined he could reveal the entire minor evolution, finding out the stage which they reproduce; they reproduced asexually, and they were all female. It was time that he did that. He sealed the tank, and set it to recreate an SRX type environment with growth power exponentially- literally to the power of 100 to the power of 10.

--In a few days...--

Fast motion showed 6 stages, one which most Metroids didn't live long enough to assume. The sixth stage, which he called the queen stage, allowed the queen to lay eggs, and Shasta fished them out, also recording quantitative and qualitative observations on the evolutionary. Then he put the egg under and MRI...

"What did you find out?" Cliodna had invited Thoth to the session.

"Well... its blastopore became the anus. It's a Deuterostrome."

He typed in Bilateria>Deuterostromia.

"Now, I'm going to do en entire run through for Chordata. It's an important phylum, of course."

Shasta got out his whiteboard, listed

He checked off notochord, Hollow dorsal nerve tube, and gill slits, because he had seen those embronically or otherwise already. "Definitely symmetrical bilaterally. Cephalization... Maybe not... Most of its nervous tissue is concentrated to its nucleus." He crossed it off the board. "Metamerism, repetitive structures, yes. Coelom, yes. Blood flow is correct."

"Due to no Cephalization, it's only really similar to Chordata. We'll create a new Phylum based on its ventral neural base."

"Called..."

"Ventrochordata."

After typing a little, Shasta had typed Life>Eukaryota>Opisthokonta>Animalia>Eumetazoa>Bilatera>Deuterostromia>Ventrocordata

"I believe this is where I will be breaking off... I'll have to chart it more advanced."

Akiba stares at the chart for a moment and says "This is why I'm a Bounty Hunter." Exalyn looks a little less confused, but still confused nonetheless. Akiba looks at the two and says "I know a different way they reproduce. I once saw a metroid exposed to beta rays. It split in two within 24 hours."

"But I mean their main means of reproduction. Plus, a higher stage could not split from beta rays because they have skin."

Shasta began to piece together a concept map. ((I'm doing an actual concept map on my computerbox. So I'm going to cut this a bit short. Also, I'm working on classifying X, as well.))

"Eh. Good pont. I'm a bounty hunter, not a scientist."
Akiba leaned up against the walls of the building, and Exalyn sat down.

"I should keep learning Latin," Shasta grumbled. "It would be much easier to name taxonomy." He opened a translator. "Mutus... Aduro... Primus."

"What is latin"asked Exalyn.Exalyn was still confused as to what was going on here."And while your here can you tell me what the bloody hell are metroids,I can't just sit here and wait for the next lunar cycle,I am getting old and impatient".

"Latin is an ancient language from earth. And Metroids are parasites that can turn a living thing into a lifeless husk. They absorb pure life force, but no bodily fluids are consumed. I don't know how."
Akiba goes to a fridge and grabs some orange juice.
"Want some?"

"I think that's it! I'm still deciding if I should separate Talon Metroids and Dark... Hey, that sounds good," Shasta got up, grabbed his water bottle, dumped it out, then poured some orange juice when Akiba was done. "Three Rs." He began drinking.

"What?"
Akiba took another sip of his cup.

"Reduce. Reuse Recycle. They all start with R. And there are three of them. The reason I said it is that I haven't drank out of anything but this bottle for years now."

"Orange juice?,What you both need is gold phazon,Trust me this kind doesnt kill you but since the depletion of it,This is the only kind left"Exalyn said.Exalyn pulled out his canteen and started to drink from it,He glowed a bright gold colour before putting the Drink away.

"Dude, how do you know it doesn't hurt you? I mean, That's retarded. Drink a powerful radiation source that any other kind would kill you. I'd prefer safe orange juice."
He takes a large gulp, then realizes he still has his power suit boots on.
"I never noticed that."

"Ha, what? You're insane! That could kill you, you know." Shasta looked at Akiba, "Well, not KILL you, but you really shouldn't leave your boots on like that!"

Then Shasta looked to Exalyn. "Now that is just... Gold Phazon? I've... never heard of it... But you WANT to be dependent on it the rest of your life?"

"They're comfy. Don't judge me. These past few jobs I've done have been hell. You remember the nasty case of the flu I got..."
Akiba stands for a moment then his suit materializes over him.
"I love this thing. Saved me more times than I can remember..."

((That was a joke. Laugh.))

"Yes." Shasta nodded. "Want to go outside for a bit? It's a bit... cramped, for lack of better word, in here...."

"But the metroids... Ah hell. Ok."
Akiba walks outside, suit on but no helmet. He looks in a mirror and notices his orange juice stache...

"Heheh." Shasta thought he looked like the milk mustache people after a few months. ((Like really bad milk turning orange?)) "I doubt Metroids will come up to this level. Remember, they're not fans of cold."

"Then why does my computer read a large energy source in front of me?"
Akiba looks in front of himself to find his ship.
"Oh..."

"And along with that, we have ice beams." Shasta looked a quarter mile to the southeast, where a large crater had impacted the side of the volcano, providing an excellent location for a lift headed inward toward the habitat of the Metroids, ((I'll name the mountain later.)) but it seemed to Shasta by its proportions of complexity that Metroids had been created with human hands... Or something else intelligent.

"You mean Mount Wannahockaloogie?"
